PIRAEUS, Greece —Kylian Mbappé delivered one of the greatest individual performances in Champions League history on Wednesday night, scoring all four goals as Real Madrid C.F. defeated Olympiacos F.C. 4–3 in a breathtaking encounter at the Karaiskakis Stadium.
The victory not only marked Real Madrid’s first-ever win on Greek soil but also underscored Mbappé’s status as one of modern football’s most decisive match-winners. His four-goal display single-handedly overturned an early deficit and powered Los Blancos into fifth place in the League Phase standings.
Olympiacos shocked the visitors early, taking the lead in the eighth minute when Chiquinho finished off a smooth passing sequence with a low strike beyond Andriy Lunin. The Greek side’s intensity and home crowd energy unsettled Madrid, who were missing several first-team regulars. Lunin was soon called upon again, making a vital save that prevented a second goal.
But once Mbappé began to find space, the game turned irreversibly. In the 22nd minute, he equalized after a clever through-ball from Vinícius Júnior, calmly slotting through the goalkeeper’s legs. Two minutes later, he rose to meet an Arda Güler cross with a powerful header to give Madrid the lead. By the 29th minute, Mbappé had completed his hat-trick, timing his run to perfection to latch onto an Eduardo Camavinga pass and finishing cleanly to make it 3–1, a span of seven minutes that produced the second-fastest hat-trick in Champions League history.
Olympiacos responded admirably. Substitute Mehdi Taremi scored in the 51st minute to cut the deficit, briefly reigniting hopes for the home fans. Yet Mbappé was unstoppable. On the hour mark, Vinícius Júnior carved through two defenders and squared the ball for Mbappé to tap home his fourth goal of the night, restoring Madrid’s two-goal cushion.
Still, the drama was not over. In the 81st minute, Ayoub El Kaabi headed in a late goal for Olympiacos to make it 4–3, setting up a tense finale. Despite relentless late pressure, Real Madrid held firm to secure a historic win, their first in Greece after multiple failed attempts in past European campaigns.
Mbappé’s dazzling four-goal performance not only sealed the result but earned him the UEFA Champions League Player of the Week honor.
