Ghana Music Awards USA Honours Diaspora Leaders as Life Patrons Ahead of 2026 event

Accra, Ghana- The Ghana Music Awards USA (GMA-USA) has honored several distinguished professionals in the diaspora as Life Patrons, recognizing their sustained contributions to promoting Ghanaian music and culture internationally.

Chief Operating Officer of the scheme, Emmanuel Kusi Mensah (Capito), explained that the recognition celebrates individuals who have consistently supported the vision of the awards and the broader mission of promoting Ghanaian music beyond the country’s borders.

He noted that Life Patrons of GMA-USA are more than supporters. Rather, they are cultural ambassadors who have invested their time, resources, expertise and networks to help promote Ghanaian talent internationally.

Chief Executive Officer of GMA-USA, Dennis Boafo (Don D), also expressed appreciation to the newly recognised Life Patrons for their commitment and dedication.

“Our Life Patrons are the backbone of this awards scheme. Their passion for Ghanaian music and culture is truly inspiring, and their contributions continue to ensure the growth and relevance of our music internationally,” he said.

Among those recognised is Isaac Ampem Darko, a civil engineer and entrepreneur who serves as Chief Executive Officer of Darkxlyn Company Ltd. Darko has built a reputation in infrastructure development, specializing in earthworks, geodetic surveying and road design, while also supporting community and cultural initiatives.

Healthcare professional Vida Djorgee, founder and Chief Operating Officer of Essential Quality Care in Portland, was also inducted. With more than two decades of experience in healthcare delivery, Djorgee has combined her professional career with efforts to promote Ghanaian culture within diaspora communities.

Another honoree, Isaac Kwabena Ofori Amoako, is widely known as the founder behind Ike City Hotel and the Ike City Group of Companies. His entrepreneurial journey from the diaspora to establishing a growing hospitality business in Ghana and has positioned him as a mentor and philanthropist supporting youth empowerment and cultural initiatives.

In the media and entertainment space, Sabaina Dugan was also recognised for her work promoting Ghanaian music in the United States. A registered nurse and Associate Director of Nursing, Dugan is the Chief Executive Officer of Plush Media, a production and events company that has organised several cultural and gospel music events, including the Shakana Experience 2024, connecting artists with diaspora audiences.

Completing the list of honourees is Sandra Adom, a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner, professor and healthcare researcher with more than fifteen years of experience. During the 2025 edition of the Ghana Music Awards USA, Adom served as the event’s Advanced Practice Provider, helping ensure the health and safety of performers and participants.

Reflecting on the recognition, Dr Adom told DM Media, the role allows her to combine her professional expertise with her cultural roots. “As a clinician born and raised in Ghana, this role beautifully brings together two passions of mine: service and culture,” she said. “I’m excited to support the promotion of Ghanaian music, art, and culture globally while collaborating with others who are committed to uplifting our creative industry. At the same time, I look forward to contributing my clinical expertise to support the team and performers during major events, helping ensure a safe and optimal experience for everyone. Proud to serve, celebrate, and give back to the culture that shaped me.”

GMA-USA World Cup Edition

The recognition comes as preparations intensify for the 2026 Ghana Music Awards USA, scheduled for August 8, 2026, at the Hyatt Regency Ballroom in Princeton, New Jersey. Organizers describe the upcoming ceremony marking the awards scheme’s seventh year as a “World Cup Edition,” expected to bring together artists, industry stakeholders and fans from across the diaspora to celebrate the achievements of Ghanaian music on the global stage.
