The Ministry of Education has clarified that the use of Ghanaian languages as the medium of instruction is limited to lower primary levels. Officials explained that the policy aims to strengthen literacy and cultural identity among young learners while ensuring a smooth transition to English at the upper primary level.

Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has directed the Ghana Education Service to enforce the use of mother tongue instruction nationwide to enhance learning outcomes and promote inclusive education under President Mahama’s education reset agenda.
