2025 WASSCE Results: Maths Scores declines as Over 6,000 Candidates Sanctioned for Exam Malpractice — WAEC
Accra, Ghana- The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results, revealing a steep decline in Core Mathematics performance and the cancellation of thousands of results over examination malpractice.
According to data from WAEC, only 48.73 percent of candidates obtained grades A1–C6 in Core Mathematics, down sharply from 66.86 percent in 2024, the lowest figure in four years. Meanwhile, performance in English Language and Integrated Science remained relatively stable, with 69.00 percent and 57.74 percent of students respectively earning credit passes.
English Language outcomes were nearly unchanged from 2024, though still below the 2023 peak of 73.11 percent. Integrated Science registered a minor dip, while Social Studies scores dropped to 55.82 percent, continuing a downward trend.
WAEC confirmed extensive disciplinary action following its 40th Examinations Committee meeting on November 17, 2025. 6,295 candidates’ subject results were cancelled for bringing foreign materials such as notes and textbooks into examination halls. 653 candidates lost their entire results for possessing mobile phones during exams amd 908 subject results and 158 entire results remain withheld pending further investigation. Results from 185 schools have also been withheld over alleged collusion, with final determinations expected before the end of December 2025.
A total of 35 individuals including 19 teachers were implicated, with 19 already convicted and 16 awaiting trial.
In its concluding remarks, WAEC expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, invigilators, and security agencies for ensuring a smooth examination process despite logistical challenges. The Council assured that all withheld results would be released once investigations conclude.
