Court Discharges Abu Trica After State Withdraws Charges

Accra, Ghana- Legal counsel for Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, and his two alleged accomplices have confirmed that all three were discharged by the court after the state withdrew the charges against them.

After the court session, the lawyer told the media the Attorney General’s decision to withdraw the case showed the state lacked grounds to prosecute the other two involved.

“That has been evident from the beginning. The state had no case against the other two,” he said, endorsing the court’s ruling.

However, the lawyer disclosed that shortly after their discharge, the three men were re-arrested by officials of the Narcotics Control Commission. He said he had not yet received official confirmation on the reason for their re-arrest, but believed it could be for administrative purposes.

“I have yet to learn the reason for their detention, but I suspect it is administrative. I will update you once I know more,” he stated.

The development comes after the court formally discharged the three following the prosecution's withdrawal of charges. Further details on the Narcotics Control Commission’s action are yet to be officially communicated.
