Two Students Arrested Over Eastern Region School Rape and Stabbing Incident — Deputy Education Minister
The Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Apaak.
Accra, Ghana- The Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Apaak, confirmed the arrest of two students over a rape and stabbing at the Eastern Region Super Zonal sports competition, calling the acts "heinous" and warning that the government will intensify efforts to restore discipline in schools nationwide.
Responding to the incident, Dr. Apaak said the suspects have been apprehended and are assisting police with the alleged rape investigation.
“I can inform the good people of Ghana that two culprits have since been arrested as being part of the perpetrators of the heinous act of rape, and they are assisting the police in the investigation,” he stated.
He added that the victim is receiving counselling and support, and investigations continue into a related student stabbing at the same event.
The Deputy Minister stated that the Ministry of Education and GES will not tolerate violence or misconduct in schools.
“We need a disciplined society. We cannot build the Ghana we want if our future leaders are allowed to become indisciplined citizens,” he emphasized, adding that parents also have a responsibility to monitor and guide their wards.
According to him, the government is rolling out stricter measures to enforce discipline in schools across the country, particularly during inter-school events where tensions sometimes escalate.
The Ghana Education Service, through the Eastern Regional Directorate, has imposed a two-year ban on three senior high schools after disturbances at the Regional Super Zonal Sports Competition.
The affected schools are Koforidua Senior High Technical School (SHTS), New Juaben Senior High School (NJUASCO), and New Nsutam Senior High Technical School (NSUTECH).
A press release from the Regional Director of Education stated that students from Koforidua SHTS, NJUASCO, and NSUTECH engaged in hooliganism, violating the GES and ERSCSA codes.
As a result, the schools have been banned from organizing, spectating, or participating in all sporting activities, including quizzes, debates, cadetting and entertainment programmes at the school, zonal and regional levels for a period of two years, effective 11 February 2026.
Additionally, each school has been fined GH¢500 and will be surcharged for any property damage or injuries sustained, subject to assessment by a committee.
GES has urged students, staff, old students, and supporters to strictly adhere to the rules governing school activities to avoid further disciplinary action.
These developments come amid growing public concern over student violence and renewed calls for better supervision and discipline in Ghana’s second-cycle schools.
