Ghana Police Restrict Approved Uniforms for Private Security Operators
Newly approved uniforms for private security operators nationwide.
Accra, Ghana- The Ghana Police Service has issued a public notice outlining approved uniforms for private security operators nationwide, warning that any unapproved attire resembling state security uniforms is illegal. The notice, dated February 5, 2026, was issued by the Police Headquarters in Accra under Regulation 12 of L.I. 1571 (1992).
Police have authorized four uniform combinations for private security personnel: white shirt with ash khaki trousers and white stripes; cream shirt with brown khaki trousers and cream stripes; mauve shirt with maroon trousers and mauve stripes.
A fourth uniform a yellow shirt with ash or grey reflectors across the front and back, worn over brown khaki trousers is approved solely for personnel operating in mines and oil fields.
The Police stressed that any other uniform, colour combination, design, or turnout not listed in the notice and which bears resemblance to the uniforms of state security agencies is considered unauthorised.
Private security companies and in-house security units are required to check their uniforms against the approved specifications, ensure immediate discontinuation of any unapproved attire, and notify all personnel of the policy to prevent the use of uniforms resembling those of the Police or other state security agencies.
The notice further warned that offenders will face legal sanctions. The public is urged to familiarize themselves with the approved uniforms and promptly report any suspected violations to the authorities.
