San Francisco, CA — The Golden State Warriors (5–4) continue to navigate an unpredictable start to the 2025–26 NBA season, battling through mounting injuries and lineup instability. On Wednesday night, they fell 121–116 to the Sacramento Kings in a hard-fought Northern California rivalry clash at the Golden 1 Center.

The Warriors were once again without their veteran pillars: Stephen Curry (out – illness), Jimmy Butler III (out – back) and Draymond Green (out – ribs). Despite the absence of their All-Star trio, Golden State’s young players rose to the moment, flashing the potential of the franchise’s next generation.

Rookie guard Will Richard dazzled in his first NBA start, erupting for 30 points on an efficient 10-of-15 shooting, including 5-of-8 from three-point range. Moses Moody added 28 points, while Jonathan Kuminga chipped in 24, anchoring an offense that leaned heavily on speed, spacing, and transition play. “It’s encouraging to see the young guys play with confidence,” head coach Steve Kerr said postgame. “They’re growing, learning how to compete in tough environments. The turnovers hurt us, but there’s a lot to build on.”

These achievements underscore the team’s dependence on younger players to shoulder the scoring burden when veteran leaders are sidelined, revealing both potential and unpredictability. The Warriors accumulated 19 turnovers during the game, showcasing some of the carelessness that can accompany a depleted lineup.

At 5–4, Golden State remains in the middle of a crowded Western Conference race. Their next test comes Friday, November 8, when they visit the Denver Nuggets for an NBA Cup group stage game.

The potential return of Curry, Butler, and Green could dramatically alter the lineup’s rhythm and defensive structure. “If we get healthy, we’re still one of the most dangerous teams in the league,” Moody said. “Right now, it’s about holding the line until our leaders are back.”
