Donzo’s Penalty Ends Hearts’ Unbeaten Run as Asante Kotoko Triumphs 1–0 in Super Clash

ACCRA, GHANA- Morifing Donzo was the hero at the Accra Sports Stadium as his first-half penalty gave Asante Kotoko a hard-fought 1–0 victory over arch-rivals Hearts of Oak, ending the Phobians’ eight-match unbeaten streak in the Ghana Premier League.

The Guinean forward calmly converted from the spot just before halftime after Peter Amidu Acquah was brought down in the box by defender Amankwah Baafi, sealing Kotoko’s statement win in the 118th league meeting between the two giants of Ghanaian football.

Led by coach Abdul Karim Zito, Kotoko began aggressively, pressing Hearts deep and creating several early chances. The decisive moment arrived on the stroke of halftime, and Donzo made no mistake, firing past the goalkeeper to notch his first official goal for the Porcupine Warriors sending their supporters into wild celebration.

Hearts of Oak, managed by Mas-Ud Didi Dramani, fought relentlessly in the second half for an equalizer, but Kotoko’s defense stood resolute. The Super Clash’s intensity grew in the final moments when Kotoko squandered a second penalty opportunity through Richmond Lamptey, before Hearts had what looked like an equalizer ruled out for offside sparking furious protests from players and fans alike.

Despite the late drama, Kotoko held firm to secure a morale-boosting victory that propels them up the Premier League table and reasserts their championship credentials. The result also marks Hearts of Oak’s first defeat of the 2025/26 season, a psychological setback as the title race heats up.
