Ekitike Emerges as Lead Man for Liverpool After Isak Struggles

Frankfurt, Germany — With Alexander Isak’s form and fitness under scrutiny, Hugo Ekitike is stepping up as Liverpool’s preferred striking option, according to club and media reports. Liverpool manager Arne Slot confirmed that Isak, the club’s £125 million summer signing, was substituted at half-time during their 5-1 UEFA Champions League victory over Eintracht Frankfurt after a poor first-half performance and reported groin discomfort.

“Alex had to go off because he felt his groin… Let’s hope it’s not too bad,” Slot told reporters following the match. Ekitike, who joined Liverpool in July for approximately £69 million, has already scored six goals in 12 appearances this season outperforming Isak, who has managed one goal in eight outings. Against Frankfurt, Ekitike netted the equalizer just nine minutes after Liverpool went behind. His quick-paced finish and composed strike shifted momentum decisively.

Liverpool’s attacking setup now appears to favor Ekitike. With Isak’s fitness and adaptation under question, the club may look to build around the France international. Analysts suggest the change could mark a tactical shift for the reigning Premier League champions. Liverpool face a Premier League match at Brentford this weekend. Slot’s selection whether he starts Ekitike or sticks with Isak is expected to reveal the club’s direction up front.
