Madrid, Spain — Football fans around the world witnessed classic drama, controversy, and brilliance as Real Madrid defeated Barcelona 2–1 in the first El Clásico of the 2025/2026 La Liga season.

The heated clash at the Santiago Bernabéu had everything goals, confrontations, and a post-match melee that reignited the fiercest rivalry in world football. Real Madrid drew first blood through Kylian Mbappé, who broke free from the Barcelona defense to score his 11th league goal of the season. Barça responded through Fermín López, capitalizing on a defensive lapse to level the game.

But just before halftime, Jude Bellingham restored Madrid’s lead with a clinical finish following a slick team move sending the home crowd into raptures.

Barcelona goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny kept his side in contention in the second half, saving a penalty from Mbappé, but Madrid’s disciplined defending saw them through to victory.

The win ends Barcelona’s four-match El Clásico winning streak and strengthens Madrid’s position in the La Liga title race. Tensions began days before kickoff when Barcelona’s 18-year-old star Lamine Yamal taunted Real Madrid in a livestream, claiming “they always steal results.” Madrid captain Dani Carvajal fired back, warning the teenager to “swallow his words.”

After the final whistle, tempers flared again. Following a red card to Pedri, Madrid players including Vinícius Jr. and Carvajal surrounded Yamal, sparking a heated altercation that saw security and staff rush onto the pitch.

Shouts of “Who’s stealing now?!” echoed from Madrid players as the referee hurried off amid chaos.

The fiery encounter underscored why El Clásico remains football’s most dramatic spectacle a clash of pride, power, and passion.

Real Madrid’s victory restores their dominance after last season’s humiliating 4–0 loss at home, while Barcelona will look to bounce back quickly as pressure mounts on manager Xavi Hernández.
