Rocky Dawuni Champions Pan-African Heritage Museum as Beacon of Unity and Culture

Accra, Ghana —Multiple Grammy nominee and international music icon Rocky Dawuni has called for renewed efforts to safeguard Africa’s cultural heritage and preserve its collective identity for future generations.
Speaking ahead of a special benefit concert in support of the Pan-African Heritage Museum, Dawuni emphasized that the project is not only a cultural landmark but also a unifying force for Africans and the diaspora.
“A people without their own memory is a people without a defined future,” Dawuni said. “If Ghana is the foundation of Pan-Africanism, then having this museum here is of historic importance. It holds the vision of our founding fathers and the dream of a united Africa.”
The Pan-African Heritage Museum, when completed, will serve as a global center for African history and culture, celebrating the continent’s shared achievements and resilience.
Located in Ghana, the museum aims to create a space where visitors can explore Africa’s past, understand its present, and find inspiration for the future — a living archive connecting the continent and its diaspora.
“We won’t have unity unless we have a space that also holds the value of our unity,” Dawuni noted.
Fellow musician Okyeame Kwame echoed Dawuni’s sentiments, stressing the museum’s role in advancing Pan-African identity and pride. “As an African, one of the most important conversations is about Pan-Africanism and African identity,” Okyeame Kwame said.
“So if a visionary like Kojo Yankah sees that we need to build a museum, using my voice and music to support it is the least I can do. The Pan-African Heritage Museum has chosen me.”
On Friday, November 7, top musicians and cultural advocates will unite in a fundraising concert to support the completion of the museum, blending rhythm, poetry, and purpose in celebration of Africa’s shared heritage.
Beyond music and art, the initiative underscores a deeper mission to preserve, interpret, and celebrate the African story from an African perspective.
For Dawuni and others, the museum represents a call to reclaim identity and ensure that the next generation inherits a legacy of unity and pride.
