Kumasi, Ashanti Region – The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has arrested two suspects in connection with a robbery and carjacking incident that occurred at Mpatasie, near St. Anthony Hospital in the Ashanti Region.
The suspects, identified as Issaka Jamal (30) and Kwadwo Badu (40), were apprehended after attempting to flee from the police along the Ofankor St. John’s stretch of the Accra–Nsawam Highway on Saturday, November 8, 2025. One suspect sustained a gunshot wound, while the other received minor injuries; both are currently receiving treatment at the Police Hospital in Accra.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Jamal, Badu, and their accomplices attacked two occupants of an unregistered silver Hyundai Tucson (DV-5357-Z) on November 7, 2025, robbing them of GH₵120,000, three mobile phones, identity cards, work tools, and other personal items before escaping with the vehicle.
The police operation led to the recovery of the stolen Hyundai Tucson, GH₵5,900 in cash, a customized number plate marked “Congo-1-24”, and other exhibits. The recovered items have been secured at the Police Headquarters as investigations continue to track down additional suspects.
In a statement signed by Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, Public Relations Officer of the CID, the Ghana Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying intelligence-led operations and ensuring that all persons involved in the robbery are brought to justice.
“The Ghana Police Service remains committed to ensuring that all individuals involved in the robbery are arrested and prosecuted. Our intelligence-led operations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects,” the statement read.
The incident at Mpatasie adds to recent concerns over rising armed robbery and carjacking cases in the Ashanti Region. Police say intensified patrols and community engagement have already led to the recovery of several stolen vehicles and the arrest of multiple suspects in recent weeks.
