ACCRA, GHANA — Ghanaians are set to breathe a sigh of relief as the new passport fee of GHC350 takes effect on Thursday, November 13, 2025, following a downward adjustment from the previous GHC500, according to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

The fee reduction, which takes effect across all Passport Application Centres (PACs) nationwide, is part of the government’s plan to ease the financial burden on citizens and improve access to essential public services.

In a statement posted on Facebook on Sunday, Mr. Ablakwa explained that the new rate fulfills a government promise to review passport processing costs and make travel documents more affordable.

“This adjustment is designed to encourage more citizens to acquire valid travel documents through official channels and to discourage the use of middlemen and unauthorized agents,” the Minister stated.

The reduced fee applies to all standard passport applications processed through official centres. Express service rates are expected to be announced soon by the Passport Office.

The development follows several calls from the public and civil society for a more affordable passport regime, given recent improvements in digital processing systems and increased efficiency at Ghana’s Passport Office.
