ACCRA, Ghana — The Ghana Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Service has suspended three principals for allegedly engaging in unauthorized fee collection at their institutions. The affected schools are Agona Swedru Technical Institute in the Central Region, Sunyani Technical Institute in the Bono Region, and Madina Technical Institute in the Greater Accra Region. According to the Service, the principals have been placed on 30-day administrative leave pending investigations.

The disciplinary action follows credible reports of unapproved fees charged to students, including payments for admission processing, boarding placement fees, and Parent–Teacher Association (PTA) charges. TVET management described these practices as violations of government policy, particularly the Free TVET Policy, which ensures equitable access to technical and vocational education nationwide. “Such practices directly undermine the Service’s commitment to equitable education and transparency,” the statement said.

In response, the Service has constituted investigative committees to conduct an independent inquiry into each case. Findings from the investigations will determine whether further disciplinary actions are necessary.

During the suspension period, the day-to-day administration of the affected institutions will be overseen by Regional Directors of Education. The Service reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy for corruption, extortion, and malpractice, emphasizing its dedication to fairness and accountability in the education system.

“The Ghana TVET Service remains resolute in upholding accountability and protecting the integrity of the admission process,” the statement concluded.

Management also assured parents and students that efforts are being made to maintain professionalism and restore public trust in the administration of TVET institutions nationwide.
